This is a nice, compact umbrella that fits easily in a shoulder bag or large bag. On a recent trip to Normandy and England I had to use my umbrella a few times and the opening and closing mechanism worked well and came in handy in unexpected downpours. I have learned that after closing the top using the top open button, you must pull the top section down towards the handle until it "clicks", which resets the open/close mechanism for the mechanism to work again. If this does not happen, you will have to open the lantern manually. It's not a huge problem once you understand how the mechanism works: just pull the dome back down once it's closed, and it's ready to swing open and open when the release button is pressed. I have purchased two of these umbrellas, a black for fall/winter and a blue for spring/summer and I expect to use them regularly throughout the year. When they wear out I just buy new ones as the price is reasonable.
