Review on Camco Insulator Skylight Reflective 45192 by Jeff Addison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Model 45195 WITHOUT reflective surface. Great insulator that blocks light and can be used as a decorative pillow/seat cushion.

I like products that can be used more than once and they meet that need in more ways than one. These sunshade vent insulators have been one of my favorite van accessories lately and we've found many uses for them already. Let's start with the bases, they are made of white foam rubber, are about 3-1/2" thick and about 14-1/2" tall, so they are a bit larger than the standard 14" square RV roof vent. They're interested in any foam rubber smell, they're odorless right out of the box and remain so after a month of use. They come with a white fleece cover that can be removed for washing. For use in roof vents, simply insert them into a square vent hole. The foam compresses slightly to form a friction fit that seals and insulates from heat and blocks most of the light. I've left them in place when towing, even on some pretty rough stretches of road, and they've never fallen out. To remove them, all you have to do is grab the fleece cover and pull. Our first trip after purchasing three of these isolators was on a weekend in late July on a lake in Texas. In the mid 90's we found that our air conditioning ran much less frequently with the vent isolators and our trainer stayed at a very comfortable 68 degrees. They block most of the light that normally enters through the vent covers. (You can see how much light they block in the photo.) We've found this to be a huge bonus for us in the mornings when we want to go to bed later than "first light". We've also found them to make great throw pillows and double as a seat cushion for that folding bench we carry around. in just a month of use in mostly hot and sunny Texas weather. If you look closely at the picture with the tape measure on the 14" side, you can see a couple of very light marks on the surface and edge of the vent insulator where it was pressed against the vent handle for most of the minute, but that impression is completely gone. While not a bad idea, I wouldn't open them too wide as an unexpected downpour could leave you with soaked vent seals.
