Review on Steadyrack Classic Rack Wall Mounted Solution by Rick Malloy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well, easy to install, difficult to schedule

So I have 5 bikes that I want to put in a room that is 78 inches wide and about 9 feet high. I've looked at all types of luggage racks for over a year and for many reasons almost none of them fit. Steadyrack is the only thing I've found that does the job. The key feature that allows bikes to be packed tightly is that the whole system allows the bike to rotate so it doesn't have to be perpendicular (90 degrees) to the wall. The instructions are minimal. I recommend going to YouTube to see a manufacturer's installation video. Package includes 4 anchor bolts for post installation and 4 accompanying anchors if installing in masonry. The hardest part is planning the installation. In a very limited space, I almost guarantee you won't find a hairpin that you'll want to put even one of the bikes on. Instead of trying to screw in a board that's bolted down, which looks messy and will look awful, go to your local hardware store and use hinged metal anchors that hold up to 80 pounds each. You place four of these in the wall to secure the Steadyrack, and it'll hold more than just your trunk and bike, especially since the Steadyrack is only rated for loads up to 110 pounds. The stand itself is attractive, it folds away when not in use, the "beak" lip at the front grips the wheel and makes it easy to slide into the stand, and the front wheel is locked in place. So how did I put 5 bikes against the wall in such a limited space? Place the widest and tallest bike in the middle of the wall, about 2 inches off the floor. Set the bike up as wide as possible on both sides and raise it 3 inches so the handlebars don't touch. The last two bikes are then between the middle bike and the adjacent bikes about 30 inches off the ground. To load and unload the taller bikes, rotate the shorter bikes out of the way.
