Good printer but toner is very expensive

I like a lot about this printer, it's simple and good quality. Then I had to replace the toner cartridges. Here are my review notes after using the printer for 1.5 years with very little use: 1) The toner cartridges that come with the printer are rated at 750 pages (color) and 1400 (black) which is about % less than what is calculated for the cheapest replacement toner cartridges. It seems pretty mean. 2) I'm pretty sure the printer is tracking the page count versus actual toner usage/amount. In Lexmark's defense, most other manufacturers are doing the same. But the printer starts to pause printing with warnings you should bypass if you get close. 3) Replacement toner cartridges are very expensive. Even at the discounted price and buying the cheapest cartridges (1000 page review) you will pay $220-$275 to replace all 4 cartridges. Because of this, you're tempted to just buy a brand new printer and toss the old, working one in a landfill. This is very disingenuous from Lexmark given the PR they are doing with their "return program" toner cartridge program. 4) Lexmark mainly sells toner and replacement parts through its website. You can get OEM toner and other parts through Revain and other resellers, but they usually cost the same or more. Based on that, I think they manage their own sales channel. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it explains the high cost of consumables. As soon as I run out of the first replacement toner cartridges, I will replace this printer. There are much better printers out there with lower life cycle costs of 2+ years than this printer.
