Claims are true, there is no smell of mold but only if you hang them up to dry! NOT the right way! After a few weeks they started smelling of mold but at the time I soaked them in vinegar or washed them in the washing machine (I put them in a delicates bag) so I was glad to be able to reuse them. BUT the best thing about these sponges is that they have a little loop (fruit stalk) that you can use to hang them on a hook or whatever to properly air dry them without developing a mildew smell. My dish soap dispenser is perfect for hanging a sponge over the sink to dry (I'm including a photo to show what I mean). Once I figured that out, it was a game changer. This is very important to avoid getting mold smell - USE THE CONTOUR! I've been using/reusing these sponges for years - this is my 3rd time buying them.
