Review on Enhance Accuracy and Efficiency with Protimeter Aquant Moisture Meter BLD5765 by Donnie Boss

Great for inspecting the hull of a boat

This is a very easy to use device. Some of the features I like are non-destructive testing and RF measurement through the baseplate (up to 3/4"). Has an audible signal when the readings exceed the control values. Compact, large display. Good carrying case. A durable item because I once dropped it from 3 ft. Seems accurate as I measured some known wet and dry items before using them on the hull of the boat and got good results as expected It was also unaffected by the last morning dew on the surface of the boat.I got a dry reading which I knew was dry despite the dew and a wet reading where I was expecting.Things that need improvement - Calibration It's good to calibrate for 1 year, but after that the manufacturer wants to send it back to them for recalibration, it's not necessary because other gauges have calibration level have ards to measure. The manufacturer needs to create reference standards and the device needs to come with an internal reset program based on the reference standards (I think it's a simple line graph with zero and a calibration point to adjust the RF conversion curve to digital readings). This is old technology for field devices that should be easy to integrate (e.g. pH meter, CGI meter, etc.). The readings are not in % moisture but on a scale of 100 I believe? to 999. Easy to calculate in your head since 100 = 1% and 999 = 100%. Maybe there is a way to toggle the display to fix this problem, but not sure. It is tilted, which caused problems when reading in tighter spots on the boat's surface. This is offset by the fact that it has a hold function so you can grab readings you can't see and hold to rotate the meter to see readings. noted above.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly
