This duvet is nice and soft, but not heavy. There were no beads in the blanket I received. The description states that the pearls are double layered. My 13 year old daughter could easily lift this 20lb blanket but struggled to lift what I bought which was 15lbs of beads. This is a heavy blanket. The difference is that a weighted blanket has bead technology that wraps you around so you feel just enough pressure to relax you so you fall asleep and stop you from tossing and turning. Not this blanket. At least not what I have. Again, it's nice, soft to the touch, but if you're looking for a truly weighted blanket, this isn't it. This heavy blanket can be used on cold winter nights. Another indication that it has no pearls is that it is machine washable.
