That's exactly what I wanted.
When you hike, you need a belt that flexes as you walk and climb. This belt is perfect for the flexibility you need. The only criticism is the buckle, which loosens every now and then when you put it on. More of an annoyance than a problem, but sharper teeth for gripping the strap would have helped.
