I bought this primarily to make heat shrink tubing in the shop. It should be good for this app. A secondary use would be preheating plastic tubing for on-site insertion of barb fittings. While I don't have exact specs to base this on, I suspect from experience that DeWalt uses some sort of SCR technology to pulse the heater element to maintain the charge air temperature setpoint. This is fine for use in a conventional outlet, but I've tried it on a small portable generator (Honda 2000 inverter). Even when the generator was running at high speed, the pulsing of the heating element drove the controller insane. I suspect I'll need to use a much larger constant speed generator set to handle power surges when used remotely. Otherwise we'll see how long it lasts.
