Review on Cooler Master NotePal X3 Laptop Cooling Pad - Boost Your Performance with 200mm Blue LED Fan by Dave Mosby

Revainrating 5 out of 5

More powerful than 5/6 fan setups, pay attention to the CFM rating!

I first ordered a 6 fan laptop cooler which got a lot more reviews than this one and also a lot more positive reviews for my HP Specter Folio (3 years old, horrible overheating issues, tried cleaning already) . Then I realized that many of the reviews were fake. When I received this product, after about 1 hour, one of the fans started making a grinding noise and one of the red LEDs stopped working. So, yeah, I sent that junk back. Then I spent more time than I needed to find a laptop fan that not only looked "cool" but actually made a difference. So I started searching the internet for this important measurement: CFM. The nominal CFM for this fan from the manufacturer's website is 76.5 maximum (has a variable speed controller). This CFM rating is one of the highest I could find in this price range after all my research, although there were laptop fans from 7/8 years ago that were higher. Another reason I went for this is because I've had a CoolerMaster X-Slim for about 4-5 years and the fan on it still works perfectly, even after I've intentionally abused it occasionally (forced to stop the fan, etc .). This CFM model is rated at 70 CFM and I don't like how the USB port is built into it. The wire on mine started shorting out, making the fan unreliable unless I wiggled the wire a bit. I have a cumbersome built-in cable, which means I can swap out cables when they wear out and then just plug them in like any other USB device. 5.) Additional USB port for another device. 6.) IMPORTANT: I've seen countless videos of people holding paper over their fan to see if the airflow would move it. This airflow lifts the paper, so it's not just useful for a cool looking LED paperweight. I tested it with notebook paper, toilet paper and paper towel. All three were lifted by the air current. Cons: 1.) The front vent that "keeps your hands dry" is more for the beauty than anything. When I put paper on it it seems to draw in air instead of blowing it out. That's not a problem for me and I assume that technically any movement of air will keep your hands dry. 2.) It would be great if they added a second open USB slot to add two extra devices. 3.) I would prefer USB-C over Micro-USB. Again, this is not a big problem for me. I hope this review has been helpful to anyone frustrated with the junk and marketing of most of these laptop "cooling" fans, most of which do nothing at all or fail prematurely.
