Review on SanDisk Extreme 240GB 2 5 Inch Height by Jennifer Middleton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good or better performance compared to Samsung

I changed this rating from 3 to 5 stars after investigating the reason for the poor performance in my previous review. The SanDisk rep pointed out that the performance should be higher, so I checked. It turned out that my ASUS Maximus V Formula ROG gaming motherboard has two SATA controllers. A pair of SATA/600 ports are supported by the Intel Z77 chipset and four more SATA/600 ports are supported by the Asmedia chipset. Samsung was connected to an Intel SATA port and this drive was connected to Asmedia. The Asmedia chipset was inefficient, not this drive. Poor performance can also be caused by using an old specification. SATA cable. These are Crystal DiskMark test results with both drives connected to Intel SATA ports. The first column is for Samsung and the second for San-Disk. Sequential Read: 500MB/s 495MB/s Sequential Write: 450MB/s 488MB/s 512KB Random Read: 426MB/s 335MB/s Random Read 512KB Write: 369MB/s 431MB/s Random 4KB Read (QD=1): 28.5MB/s 30.6MB/s 4KB Random Write (QD=1): 56.4MB/s 64.6MB/s 4KB Random Read (QD= 32): 280 MB/s 396 MB/s 4 KB Random Write (QD=32): 142 MB/s 291 MB/s is slightly faster. Benchmark results can vary by 10% or more, making most differences undetectable. So all in all this is a good disc and if it doesn't melt tomorrow I plan to keep it for a long time.
