I have used this product many times and am confident that the best results are obtained when the manufacturer's installation instructions are not followed. I find connectors create a "dirty" look and it's best not to use them if possible. In the example above where I routed the speaker wire around the chimney, I only used the corner connector (there is no alternative); I didn't use any of the direct connections. This approach requires you to cut the pieces to the perfect length to avoid gaps and make precise/straight cuts, but the results are worth it. You end up looking a lot "cleaner" in my opinion.
