Review on πŸ’‘ SYLVANIA Dimmable Recessed Downlight for Lighting by Ricky Habbani

Much more versatile than Can lights

A few years ago I installed six lamps in the kitchen and living room so if you've never done it I'm telling you it's a dirty job. When you first find and cut holes in drywall, there's going to be dust everywhere, but the real boom is installing cans in the attic. They must pass between the trusses and be attached to the tree and covered with insulation. In my case it was a fiberglass layer with cellulose blown over it. Imagine building snow angels in dusty isolation in a 110 degree attic. These new recessed LED downlights eliminate part of this process. First, you can install them almost anywhere, regardless of the location of the rafters or trusses. The actual panel that installs flush with the ceiling is only about 3/8 inch thick, which is thinner than almost any sheet of drywall. Since the lantern only has two spring clips holding it securely, you can literally drill a mounting hole in the center of the truss and it will fit right in. The only other consideration is the connection/control box that connects to the light. I've seen them just shoved into the attic from below and left on the ceiling, but I bet that's not code. You should attach each box to the wooden structure of the house, and the wiring provided should suffice. There are five to choose from. I have included photos of each selection from soft white to daylight. Simply set the switch on the junction box to the desired position. Connecting your home circuit to your lighting is very easy with the quick connectors provided. Wire nuts are not needed, which prevents you from twisting wires and stuffing that extra bulk into a small box. By the way, the pigtail connector is sealed with an O-ring for wet spots, and the lamp disk itself has a rubber seal for the same purpose. Also, these are dimmable bulbs so the choice is yours, say in a TV room, you can turn them on quietly rather than on or off. LED lamps have revolutionized the lighting industry and Sylvania downlights take full advantage of their smaller size, cooler operating temperature and light temperature. Highly recommended.
