The first time I used this, I heated up some water as a test. It heated the water to 140 degrees in about 40 minutes. That was great. The next time, I heated up a chowder. Two hours later, the chowder was still cold in the middle, although the heating plate was hot. What went wrong? I don't know, but I noticed that the heater is designed similar to solar cookers, using reflective heat. What works best with solar ovens to built up more heat is using a dark container and covering the top. I wondered if doing that would heat up an even drier food.So today I reheated green rice in it. I put the rice into an amber pyrex dish and covered it with aluminum foil. I'm happy to say that it heated up nicely and evenly! I left it in the heater for 1 1/2 hours without checking. The food was probably hot sooner than that, I just got busy and didn't have time to check.The unit gets pretty hot. When I went to retrieve the rice, my fingers accidentally touched the heating pad and it was so hot it lightly burned my fingers! Anyway, I'm quite happy with it now that I know how to use it better.
