Review on πŸ”Œ Discover the Curtis SP150T Sure-to-Go Surge Protector – Discontinued by Manufacturer by Richard Cunningham

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great compact surge protector

I purchased this product in January 2001 before traveling to Europe. I found this useful for several reasons. First, it tells you if the outlet has power, if it's properly grounded, and if you're protected (the three little lights above). Second, it has two grounded outputs (one on each side), which are great for whatever extra device you need to connect (your friend's book, desk lamp, external FireWire drive, etc.). These two outputs leave plenty of room for the extra-wide converters that sometimes come with peripherals. Third, it offers a telephone input and two outputs (one for modem, one for fax or telephone). That means you can connect anywhere (hotel room, friend's house, etc.) and if you're not using a modem, you don't have to reconnect your phone. Cafe and for all travel within the US. A warning: I only have one gripe, which isn't entirely the Cutris' fault, but since this is a laptop companion, Curtis could have added some instructions for not plugging it into a foreign outlet. It's essentially a different voltage that isn't grounded at all. I'm not even sure if it could even work with a converter. Maybe they thought it obvious. Regardless, I accidentally plugged it (by myself - with no computer connected) into a Paris hotel outlet, causing a huge spark and rapid electrocution. The lights went out in my wing of the hotel. Anyway, warning not to try this yourself. I still give this item an excellent rating. Surprisingly, very few surge protectors have two phone-out jacks, especially on portable devices. I bought a second one as soon as I got back.
