Review on San Jamar BD4005E High Capacity Polycarbonate by Jesus Olsen

I bought this for the bar I work at to replace an old service basket that has seen better days. I'm giving two stars just for the looks - it looks very nice, LOOKS really serviceable. However, once I put it on the rack I realized it probably wouldn't last long. First, the unit is tilted forward, apparently to be able to reach the side dishes better, and second, it is quite high, apparently to accommodate ice at the bottom. Unfortunately, the combination of the unit's forward tilt and height poses a tipping hazard, even with ice on the ground and especially when you have full garnish baskets, making it a little heavy on the top. In fact, when I closed the lid a second or third time, it tipped over, spilling cherry juice and olive juice all over the bar (we keep juice in both to keep the fruit "puffy" and often use it to make drinks close). I asked all the other bartenders what they thought of this machine and they all said at first that they liked it, that it looked great, but during the day their opinion changed because everyone had a problem with them tipping over. We had to forego olive and cherry juice and use separate containers for each - an inconvenience to say the least. Also, the device is mounted on four small square rubber pads (1/2" x 1/2"?), and in just a few days three of those pads were gone, probably just because they fell off the floor. tray transport. from the bar to the fridge for overnight storage. The lack of these pads meant the tray would slide over the stainless steel section of the bar we placed it on, making it a bit difficult to access the set quickly - if you were just touching the device with some force. you will miss it. So between tipping and sliding, this device just wasn't very handy for a fairly fast bar, it slowed us down and worried that we'd spill all the side dishes every time we used it. We went back to using our old garnish tray until we got something heavier, a little sturdier that sits low and flat on the counter.
