A great gift for artists of all levels

Wide variety of coloring tools, this set is a very good gift for a student or aspiring artist. The box provides neat storage for all tools and also makes a great gift presentation. As the description doesn't seem to reveal what's included, here we go: 1. 36 colored pencils. They have a very good range of colors, like 6 greens, 5 browns and 7 oranges.2. 30 watercolor pencils. Slightly shorter range but still a very good choice for most applications. They also blend well, as you would expect from watercolor pencils. 5 pastel pencils. Plain white, deep cadmium, crimson, dark green and black. But nice fullness and feeling. They work well as accents on soft pastel colors.4. 20 soft pastels. No overlap with pastel colors other than black, which is nice. The blacks are very similar in tone, but the different textures add to the versatility. 4 metal pins. This is a type of pencil that is often overlooked in sets like this, so these four pencils (bronze, silver, gold and pewter) create interesting effects not found in other sets. 3 crayons, 2H, 2B, 4B. I wish they had softer pens (personally I prefer the 8B) but this is a decent starter set. 3 charcoal sticks: hard, medium and soft. Good texture and feel on them.8. 3 charcoal pencils: hard, medium and soft. I would have preferred more range here, but this is a good way to try charcoal.9. Other tools: pen, eraser, rubber mush, sharpener, and round brush #6. The brush is good for smudging watercolor pencils, but it's not enough to feel real watercolor (I doubt it's designed for that). I like the toolbox here as students may not know what they need to get started. This way they can understand why they need an eraser versus a kneaded eraser, for example, and what effects they can achieve with each. I would have loved a set like this when I started and even now as a professional artist I've had a blast to play with all instruments from this set. For example, I haven't played with pastel in a long time and I doubt I would pick up a set on my own.
