Review on πŸ”Š Vantec NBA-200U USB External 7.1 Channel Audio Adapter (Black) - Enhanced Sound Experience with USB Convenience by Daniel Paige

Revainrating 5 out of 5

7.1 wired from my HTPC does not work optically!

Three 🌟 because it doesn't connect USB to optical cable. Why does it need optical connections but no USB-to-optical audio output!? It doesn't mention it and it really should! It was a real bummer! Also, my cinema audio processor does not support HDMI. It accepts eight-channel direct input, as well as old-school optical and other audio connections. My cinema devices are Xbox, Blu-ray player and HTPC. They are all connected to the projector via an HDMI splitter. Audio for Xbox and Blu-ray players is sent directly to the audio system via the splitter's optical (5.1) output. Unfortunately, my htpc sees the projector via HDMI but only as a video monitor that has no audio output. So it disables HDMI audio output, except for my optical audio output from the splitter. This now limits my audio to the headphone jack, left and right RCA channels and the rear of the audio processor, giving me great 2 channel stereo for my movies. This device solves that problem by giving me eight USB channels straight to my audio processor. Now when I want to watch movies on my HTPC, I just select the 8 channel source on my audio processor, which gives me a true 7.1 surround sound option versus the two 5.1 options for the Blu-ray player and the Xbox offers. a processor that accepts HDMI and eliminates 90% of the cables running all over the place behind my theater.
