gloss is ok. When you receive them they will have a scatter on the top with a cardboard backing that you must remove to use. Once you pull out this backing, there is no other lid to keep the glitter from falling out. So you either have to keep the little cardboard backing and glue it back in after each use, or get stuck without a lid and the glitter can fall apart. Not the best option if you have kids
