I was disappointed with these rustic handcrafted leather bags but this one is a winner. The leather is tacky, a nice color, and can be applied with a liquid or oil based conditioner, which I would use immediately to soften the sides, bottom, and underside of the valve. I want there to be no divider between the two internal sections; I know it keeps you organized but sometimes it just takes up space for me. But for now, I keep my wallet, checkbook, cell phone, my usual dozen pens, three lipsticks, business cards, a 3 x 5 x .5 notepad, plus a few meds, spare keys, and souvenirs in a zippered compartment that's almost hidden. In fact, I just noticed that there is a second zippered section! I love that the leather tabs that attach the handle to the bag are well stitched and riveted with durable hardware. I didn't find the bag too heavy and it didn't smell at all. It reminds me of the awesome old latigo leather hippie purses we carried to school in the 70's and if they lasted me for 50 years I wouldn't be surprised. So if you see a 109 year old woman with a beautiful leather handbag, it's me! I would like to emphasize once again that you do not use a paste-like leather cleaner, but use oil and liquid leather care products or even just linseed oil. It hasn't changed the color of my purse, which is normal, and I plan on doing this every few weeks for the next 6 months until it's as soft as I wanted it to be. But I bought it to treat myself and I'm very glad I did.
