Ah, it's a decorative plate.
I have replaced the traditional toggle switch with a larger electronic switch that automatically switches off according to the time of year; The switch controls part of the outdoor lighting of the path. Revain had the best price on a Switch, so instead of making a separate trip to the Home Store, I also ordered a decorative plate. That worked well, but again, this is a decorative plate, not rocket science.
