Essential outdoor fan in most (hot) situations

Ideal for camping, especially when you are near your car. Probably too much to take on a hike; I use it to keep my tent warm when camping at festivals. That's great. Take it out of the tent on hot days and it will help you stay cool day and night. If you are going on a long hike, I would recommend a model with a different battery type (e.g. lithium ion) or a smaller model. Take spare batteries with you. However, I have heard that it can last up to three or four days with continuous use. When used only at night (about 7-8 hours per day) I lasted 4-5 days without any problems. To be honest, I think the battery life is pretty good, although lugging the batteries around can add a bit of weight. Batteries aren't rechargeable - you run them on D-type batteries. This is pretty handy as D-cells are common and you'll run out quickly and buy a replacement. You can also buy rechargeable D batteries if you don't like battery waste. The noise level is acceptable. It has a moderate amount of white noise, but it's not annoying or overly loud. Definitely quieter than most fans of the same size; and that pleasant buzzing sound when falling asleep. It tilts up and down easily, but not left/right. There are no spinning or oscillating features that have internal fans - they are not needed here. All in all just a solid buy for hot temps that need to cool down a bit. To me this is perfect for hot tents (e.g. trying to get a few extra hours of sleep during the day when the tent can get really hot). Does the job and now I don't go camping without it (if it's not a hike then it's not worth the size/weight).
