This product looks more like a suitcase with padded sides and shoulder straps than a backpack. The way it opens and the way the interior is laid out is more like a standard suitcase. Three things that set it apart from other soft cases: 1) external pockets, 2) a compartment for your laptop, 3) shoulder straps. So it's really a hybrid. And it's a very good and functional hybrid. With room (and dedicated internal pockets) to stash everything you need for a weekend getaway, it's also super easy to load, unload and carry. I packed everything I could think of for a three day tour and there was still room. This is really a great purchase. Five stars.
