First three stars for the low price. Supports are made of plastic. One star off because plastic isn't as durable as wood or metal. I'd be surprised if it lasted more than a few years, provided I didn't move it much. The manual clearly states 20 pounds for the top shelf and 15 pounds for the bottom. Then it becomes clear that heavy objects should be placed on the lower shelves. One star off for ambiguity. I think even in today's market it's $3-4 for materials and maybe $5 at most for labor/packaging/shipping. That's a hefty profit margin. As for the product itself. For my purposes, this is exactly what I expected. At first I didn't want the product to be made in China. The reason for this is that they are traditionally cheap and break easily. This item says it was made in Malaysia. However, it just seems cheap like it's made in China, so I crossed it out there. Second, I ordered this product based on the measurements given. Product dimensions are exactly as advertised: 23.8(W) x 11.0(H) x 15.8(D) inches. The depth is at the furthest point or center of the shelf, the sides are only 14.5 inches. I needed these exact measurements (width and height) to fit under the table as you can see in the picture. Neither my printer nor the laserdisc player that sits on the shelf weigh more than fifteen pounds combined. For my purposes it was perfect. The product was not well packaged. I only mention this because the seal and box it was shipped in was the manufacturer's original packaging and was not altered by Amazon upon delivery. The sides of the shelves were not padded at all in the box. Between the shelves was a plain and thin foam. The box was literally the only washer offered. So I understand a lot of people who say they've been hurt. In my case I was lucky, there was enough stuffing in the box and it arrived intact. Another note: there was plastic around the plastic supports, so not as much plastic as some products, but still some unwanted plastic that ends up in landfill. However, don't let the three stars fool you. This product is exactly what I was looking for and expected. I would recommend this product considering it is cheap.
