First off, this item is only $20. And it's been working fantastic so far. The connection is direct. He seems to mate alone. I have a couple of work vans that are very noisy when driving and I can hear this thing in daylight and the people I call say it sounds just like talking on my regular phone. Very clearly. The instructions say not to use in a truck. Well, that's bullshit. It works fine for me. Bought 3 to try. I'll report back in a few weeks after seeing how long the battery lasts or if there are any issues. If your car doesn't have Bluetooth and your state laws require a hands-free kit, then this is what you need. $20. For real?!
