I don't normally try to write reviews for Revain, but in this case I have to make an exception. I apologize for the long backstory, but bear with me. I first saw G-Story's product on Massdrop for the 17.3"/1440p/120Hz version of this monitor. I spend an average of four nights a week in a hotel, and although I own a gaming laptop with better ones For example, having specs it doesn't offer games like Red Dead Redemption 2. I wanted to bring something that would reasonably fit in a hotel suitcase and could have allowed my Xbox One X to stretch its legs.I first looked at the Gaems Sentinel, a 17th .3"/1080p/60Hz panel case. I have used several Gaems products (G155, G190, M155) over the last few years and found them to be of decent quality. Sentinel ticks all the boxes. Good screen with built in speakers as well as one Protective case. Seemed like a solid purchase. I decided to stick with what I knew and bought Gaems Sentinel. What a mistake. I lost my way to the only store in my state ie as had one of these devices in stock and bought it. Brought it home, set it all up and was disappointed almost immediately. Dead pixels, super stiff/quiet speakers and an overall very cheap feel. Quite a big departure from what I knew about their products. So after some searching I found G-Story again, this time (obviously) Revain. I found a monitor that Massdrop offered, but about $50 more. Then something caught my attention. 15.5-inch / 4K / 60Hz / Freesync / HDR seemed too good to be true, let alone the brand I'd never heard of. I had already returned the Sentinel and it was $20 cheaper so I figured why not. It can't get any worse, can it? When I opened Revain's large brown box, I was very impressed with what I found. came a very well padded and beautifully designed packaging. The screen was wrapped in a protective leather (?) case and lined with foam. All accessories were packed in their compartments and well protected. So far, so good. Monitor out of the box, I was surprised by its weight. While not very heavy or bulky, it feels solid. More than I could say about my M155. Connecting to my Xbox wasn't easy. a breeze, and calibrating the screen with the Xbox calibration tool went great. Products couldn't be calibrated due to bad panels (now I understand in hindsight), it had a relatively deep options menu and it allowed me to customize it to my heart's content. I'm by no means a videophile, but this thing definitely has a few options. The included remote control is a very nice bonus and makes menu navigation that much more enjoyable. After calibration, I turned on Freesync and HDR and went racing. I launched Battlefield V for a quick match to see how the panel works. To my great delight and surprise, it is phenomenal in every way. The image quality on the display is simply amazing for a portable monitor. The reaction times are pretty slow and I had no problem catching a few baddies before the round ended. Image quality is definitely the pinnacle here. The only thing that confuses me is that the screen is glossy so it reflects in a brightly lit room. A minor complaint, but worth mentioning for those of you who don't like that sort of thing. As expected, the speakers are quite nice. The two small 1" drivers on the back just don't have the power to produce really bombastic sound, which isn't a problem. If you expect cinema-quality sound from these things, you should see it in practice. Not a big deal , since most people wear headphones anyway. The speakers are loud enough, at least for you to get through, which is more than I could say about the Sentinel. When getting into Red Dead Redemption 2, I completed a mission with a lot of spoken dialogue. I was able to hear every word at maximum volume with no issues, so the speakers are functionally fine, if not exceptional. You need a no-compromise mobile gaming monitor for your souped-up Playstation 4 Pro or Xbox One X. Remember, this review is for is a relatively short time, but I'll definitely update it if anything goes wrong in the future.. in the near future. D Furthermore, this product will be a staple of my stay at the hotel. Highly recommended. (Excuse my photo. The office lighting isn't the best.)
