The back of the pillow is sooooo soft, my autistic son and I tested this product together so I could watch it with him and see what he likes and doesn't like. First, there was nothing he didn't like. He has his favorite places that he keeps coming back to. He says he wants this blanket now because he has a "comfort" blanket but not a sensory stimulation blanket and this product would be perfect in this form also because you have that soft side to cuddle with but still have a site that you can play around with, play games or just practice with. You how to use the buckle, it also helps you tie, there are places for the zipper, my son also liked the sounds of the velcro someone just make a pillow out of this fabric. How much do I watch a mother my son interact with this pillow? I love that you can take the real insert out of the pillow and wash it. I like watching my son busy with his hands instead of clapping his hands or doing something unproductive. Wonderful suggestion that I am very grateful that we can try! If I could give this product six stars I would!
