Review on πŸ’§ KOLERFLO RS15-6 SS Green 3/4 Inch Water Recirculating Pump for Water Heater System by Marcus Hargrave

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very quiet and stable but requires attention when priming.

We bought an RS15-6 (blue) to circulate water through a water heater for a home build hot tub. I needed something quiet, reliable, and also able to run at least 3 GPM and 8 PSI (about 18ft head). This was the minimum for the tank we used. I also need something we can set and forget (top up and just turn on when needed). The RS15-6 did a great job of all of this, but with one caveat. This is stated in the user manual, but it is very important that it is properly prepared. This pump is not self-priming and will not push anything if there is air in the lines. Some pumps are forgiving of a partially full line. RS15-6 No. If there is no air in the pipe, it simply will not pump. We deducted a star for that. It's not the fault of the pump itself, but I can imagine that if air gets into the line, even a permanent installation could cause problems. The best way we've found is to install a 3-way garden hose connector on the pump. inlet side. One side of the suction goes to the tub, the other to the faucet hook, and the outlet to the pump. This allows us to use the faucet to fill the pump without drama. The instructions describe such a setup. We ran the pump for over 30 minutes at a time (not sure if it's really designed for that) and it never got hot. Let's see how this winter will be.
