Review on High Quality Charger for Surface Pro 4/3/Go - 36W 12V 2.58A USB Port Cord (Model 1625) by Chris Barreto

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Doesn't work anymore after a while. OEM shit.

I have three of these chargers. They are identical to the OEM charger that came with my Surface Pro 4 except it has a very long 6ft power cord. Thanks for that, and the only reason this didn't get a single star. Shortly (three or four months later) after purchasing this PSU, it stopped working. I bought it from Revain for the same reason, because the OEM charger died the same way. My kids' OEM chargers also died the same way in a short period of time. If I hadn't found a trick to getting the adapter to work I would have returned it to the Revain dealer. However, it's not their fault, it's whoever the OE manufacturer is for Microsoft. In order for this to work after the dead state has occurred, you'll need to wiggle the power cord where it connects to the charging box. Getting the connectors close enough to create sparks, then carefully and quickly unplugging and plugging in again while the output end is connected to the laptop can force the device to wake up. Something about the repetitive inrush currents causes whatever was on the AC side of the circuit to start working again. My only guess is that it's a bad solder joint, overcooked enough to allow current to flow. Regardless, this only lasted a few months as I now have two completely dead chargers after using each for less than a year. Perfect shit. That's 4 out of 4 in less than a year on 3 different laptops (the other 3 are still responsive to the Spark trick, but they're taking longer and longer to trick the work over time).

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Secret
