These are great winter boots! My grandson loves them very much and that says a lot! I can barely keep shoes on him (I put them on, he takes them off right away) and he actually wears them! He has a wide foot, I have to buy him wide shoes, but they don't pinch his feet even if they are not wide, let alone very wide. As for waterproofing, I don't know as he's still a bit young to stomp in muddy puddles (he's not even 2 years old). I want them to be 1/2 size as he has already outgrown a size 8 for toddlers and size 9 will be a bit big. I will be buying him another pair before winter is over though as like all babies his legs are growing so fast he will outgrow them sooner. They have lots of pillows on the bottom so they are very comfortable. They are also very cute.
