Manfrotto makes great stuff, and this one is no exception. BUT, you have to pay for it. This fluid head isn't very smooth, but it is smoother than any other similar head I have in this price range. It is smooth all the way from the loose to the closing point. I have successfully mounted full frame SLRs with lenses from 200mm to 400mm and even a powerful 5lb large diameter spotting scope. After adapting it to the current requirements, it worked very well. In my experience, if it looks like a Manfrotto clone for a fraction of the price of a real Manfrotto, buy the real deal!
