I have never used oil pastels. I read that they can be mixed with baby oil. In the first picture on the left, the oil has soaked into the paper. I cut out the flower and applied it to the acrylic background on the stretched canvas. In both cases I needed additional colors as well as a sharper image in some places, so I used multiple colored pencils. They go well with pastel colors. I'm just not sure how much baby oil to lighten the color. I had to be very careful or it would come off by the ton. I would have liked more colors too. As far as I can tell this is a great set.
