Review on SanDisk WD Blue SN550 250GB Solid State Drive by Ha Joon (Kim joon) ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I can't stop being happy with the purchase, a very good deal!

Tips for choosing: 1) Discs come with and without a buffer - this one is without a buffer. Example: 970 eva with a 512MB buffer, which is of no use at all. 2) Disks without a buffer practically do not heat up, this one is almost always cold, if you compare 970 eva it is a boiler. 3) Since the drive with the NVMe protocol works via the PCI-E 3.0 x4 bus and the processor accesses it directly using RAM, the presence of a buffer is basically eliminated, especially at such a price as it is now and it makes no sense to overpay for it, a buffer is needed only in a situation when working with a large array of simultaneous reading and writing, besides, a 1GB buffer is unlikely to solve the problem in server tasks where you need to create Raid arrays. (If prices fall then you can). 3) on 04/07/2022, the drive must have at least TLC 3D NAND memory. 4) The M2 disk without the NVMe protocol is a regular SATA 2.5 at 600MB of speed. 5) Take at least 96 layers with a high-quality controller and memory. (money buffer). 6) DO NOT fill the SSD disk to capacity because it will "choke" - keep 30-20 GB free. 7) take 256 for OC, hit the second one for two partitions for heavy programs, the rest of the rubbish like games and other things, take either a regular 7200rpm / 10.000rpm HDD or SSD 2.5 with a large rewriting resource. 8) Playing on M2 NVMe is still expensive and the difference when loading is only visible. 9) MBR and GPT disk tables are incompatible, for those who are switching to SSD along with old HDDs, so install windows clean and overtake data and then convert HDD from MBR to GPT. Pros
  • I ate the review from 04/07/2022 Perfect! under load in Cyberpunk max. temperature - 58 degrees with a radiator from the motherboard. Fast for my money - for 3300 I bought it in the . There were no dances with a tambourine, put it in and flew. NVMe support - PCIe Gen3 8Gb/s, up to 4 lanes The NVMe protocol was already activated by default in the BIOS, did not change anything. The advertised speed is correct.
Cons
  • The service life of solid state leaves much to be desired in principle . the number of bytes written is not enough (TBW) - 150 TB, but it also depends on the size of the drive. If the SSD grunts the data, it will not be possible to restore it in 99%.

Not even a month of use has passed, so it's too early to write something and draw conclusions
