Let's start with the good. The processing is excellent. more space as you would expect from literally any slacker. You can wear this for a year and other than the center seam unraveling, it's impossible to break. The error is right in the center line. If the center of the loafer is secured with a metal plate, the stitching should be such that width is maximized to spread the load across both the stitching and the metal plate. It's not like this. Unfortunately, this is a very old design flaw that has been fixed on newer models, but not on this brand. Instead, they stick to old-school suture tightening, relying on you to break them down and stretch them over time until you reach plate elongation. Considering this design doesn't allow for stretch, it doesn't, leaving you with a display that's snug 1/8 or 1/4 inch on either side of your midfoot. Getting bigger makes no sense. Doesn't solve the problem with this design either as half the width stays the same but the overall length increases. Given their quality and craftsmanship, if they offered a W option, they would dominate the moccasin market. Such a shame. What shoes. Shoes are torture for the manufacturer. I understand. That's why you do it right or not at all. Simply relying on a piece of the pie from those with the perfect foot size is bad business strategy. Possibly one of the most returned items. So why not right? Why not offer a wide range of sizes and take on the extra risk and expense. Third, fourth and fifth party retailers always need a returned product and while you may be hit initially, overtime returns will be less common and they will only dominate the market. Lacosta is truly unique in style compared to other companies and seems to be on the right track, but we see there is room for improvement. Let's talk about the costs. I'm paying for a name at a premium price and the quality and craftsmanship make it worth it. But the shoes must be appropriate. At Lacosta, shoemakers need new tools and approaches to improve their designs. Meanwhile, the $30 driving moccasin from China not only fits perfectly, I mean to the point of perfection, but is made of high-quality material, with excellent string materials, precisely finished, and fits like a glove. Even with my slightly wider feet, they have the technical knowledge to put on a show that provides the right fit in the right place for a perfect fit, and they didn't offer a large sizing option either. I hope this helps my broad footed folks. Amazing design and you have great taste to choose these loafers but be careful. If you know you have wide feet, even a little like mine, these tie-detailed Superman loafers won't budge.
