This works great for me in any ring light mode. And the left/right function is good for simulating effects and side lighting of objects that don't work well with direct front lighting. The only issue I have with the quality is that the adapter ring fits the front of the plastic lens and it still feels like soft plastic. I suspect that one cross thread is enough to ruin the threads. I would probably attach an empty metal filter ring to it and have been using it to attach a ring light to the lens ever since. Aside from the plastic rings, I found this light/flash to be pretty easy to use. However, if you're used to doing everything in software, you might get frustrated if you don't have a good understanding of how to use the camera manually. I use the ring light in full manual mode, so no problem. However, this is not a software flash drive. Although it has variable power settings and some other features, you may find that your camera doesn't interact with it in software mode. If this unit was a little more durable and/or the adapter sounded better I would probably give it 5 stars, especially for the LOW price.
