I bought this product after trying the rode boom because it had a higher weight limit, was half the price and had great reviews. Received it today after an extra day's delay in delivery with no explanation, but I was still excited to finally install it. The arm was slightly smaller than Rode's but seemed well built. I attached my shock absorber and MXL 4000 condenser mic to the bracket and mounted the clamp to my desk which is very well made with thick protective glass on the surface. I fastened my hand to the bearing base and checked the microphone. I definitely noticed how much more difficult it was to position the hand compared to the Rode, but it still moved, just with a little effort. After a few minutes of testing my new mic, I was sitting in my chair at my desk texting with my cousin when I suddenly heard a big bang. I didn't even touch the mic or anything so I was pretty confused about what had just happened until I realized what had just happened. The tension of the clamp shattered the thick glass top of the table right where the hand was being clamped, as you can see in the photos I've included. It really makes no sense how it even happened considering the glass was custom made for this table and doesn't overhang. I have never overtightened the clamp. It just crashed out of nowhere. So now your table is destroyed and there are broken glass everywhere. I am incredibly frustrated with this whole situation. The other hand I tried did no damage at all and it took about 5 minutes. Even returning this item for a refund does not compensate for the damage caused to it. Be VERY careful about what you're going to attach this thing to. I'm so upset about all of this.
