The KRUPS BW442D kettle was bought to replace a KRUPS FLF-1W kettle that had been in daily use for ten years until it started leaking. The first impression is that the kettle is bulky. The sleek gray plastic looks a bit cheap, but the lines are crisp. This giant plastic handle could have been used by a grizzly bear. Because of this, the kettle is inconvenient to lift and fill. The flip-top lid is convenient and easier to use than the old model's twist-lock lid, but I wonder how strong the opening mechanism will be. The smell of new plastic dissipated after a few boils. What is noticeable is that at 1500W it is slower than the old 1750W model. I want to check the performance before buying. You might think it doesn't make a huge difference, but it's actually noticeableโit almost seems like it's simmering longer. I hope it will stand up to daily use like the last one.
