I have used many different automatic trays: Litter Robot 2 - used for a long time with very few problems. Maybe 5 years? The downside was that it was hardly a smart litter box. It was automatic, but the lack of an application to report a loop error or something like that became an issue. Over those five years, I gradually got to the point where I stopped checking the tablet every day because basically it just worked. In those five years there have been several issues where a bug has occurred and the poor cats don't have a litter box available. In addition, without the application, it is impossible to confirm the operation when I have travelled. Not ideal if you are away for a week. As we moved into a bigger house and the tablet had its own place, I decided it was time to move to something that connected to my smartphone. Scavenger Robot 3 - He's had trouble with it since day one. I've had sensor issues, weight issues, and a whole host of horror stories that people have about this box. Support was available and attentive, they sent me parts and told me over the phone how to install/replace parts. So I got it working and kept using it. I started using crystal filler with it (after trimming the filter holes so it doesn't eject good crystals on every cycle) and the experience has greatly improved. This takes a very long time between necessary changes while the box is cycled and air dried. The problem was that my little cat, who has softer poop, needs more time for the crystal litter to dry. This box didn't allow you to set the cycle time to 30 minutes, the maximum was 15. So I started looking for a way to cycle through it regularly. There is an API so it's not impossible but my time is more valuable than my money at these levels so I decided to try something new. I also had a small complaint about the pressure on the globe. The debris seemed to seep into the gears turning it into fine dust covering everything in the room. Then, after several weeks of my search, the box completely failed and did not work. Another sensor error. It was probably a 2 year milestone. PetSafe ScoopFree - I bought this box because it was cheap and I wanted the placeholder to do all the work for me while I do my homework on my next try. I LOVE crystal trash. Getting rid of the globe function has eliminated dust as well as zero marks with the mats I've used. So I used this placeholder box for probably two years. It's also easy to tell the cat sitter how to move them. Simply cut the plastic off the new box, toss in the new filler, replace with the old and discard the old box. However, by the fourth/fifth day, two cats accumulated so much fluid that one of the cats began to urinate in random places. I need at least 7 days of reliable, trouble-free operation. So right now I brush it more often than I'd like and still use it because it's a gap filler that I've been using for 2 years while I'm looking for something better. PetKit Max - Used for two weeks before being returned. Looks like a great toilet. HOWEVER, the emptying process is prohibitively complicated and not obvious until you receive the box. Unlike the "empty" function of the garbage robot, you have to pick up this ball and throw it into the garbage can manually. This isn't the kind of tray you can leave simple babysitting instructions on. Unfortunately, it can't be improved upon with another design improvement they've made, which is to get the litter box out of the way and turn it into a resealable item. Great idea, you just have to decide if you want a good litter bin or an easy to empty globe. I also had constant trouble finding urine in a base under the bullet during the two weeks I was using it. This was a real breach of contract. The fact that this didn't happen every day leads me to believe that the cat was peeing in some way that somehow didn't make it into the box, or caught on a stitching inside the ball, although I never found one have traces of urine, stains or leaks. or anything. My largest cat is of average build and weighs 14 pounds. So if it doesn't fit I think a lot of cats will have trouble making sure there are no leaks. So it's coming back. If you have small cats that pee straight into the relatively small round litter of these round boxes and don't mind that the emptying/cleaning process is a lot more difficult then this is probably the best box on the market right now. Catlink Luxury Pro – The box had very few seemingly good reviews so I decided to give it a try. It was a real disaster. A box popped up and THEN I see the fine print in the listing's description that says my Wi-Fi network should only have letters and numbers. Annoying, but okay, I'll set you up your own custom trash can network. The app then says that it needs the ability to make calls. Why do I need my tablet to make phone calls? I've dealt with five models and four manufacturers in my nearly decade-long search for the perfect tablet, and never before has another automatic tablet attempted to make a call. Okay, more annoying, but my time is precious and I'm afraid to repackage and send it back, so I'll stick with it. After jumping through all of these hoops, I follow the prompts to connect to a brand new, specially formatted network that I set up for this. No fun. The troubleshooter says it should beep 3 times, then pause, then beep once and voila it's connected. I got this beep along with an error in the app saying no connection. I can't get over the error. There is no way to restart the application and check if the previous setting worked. Forces you to reset your settings and start over. I've done this twice more and both times the same result. Then I close the phone app again and try to reset everything and the app says I need to sign in again. When I try to log in, it says the account I set up the first time doesn't exist. Ok, try creating a new account. When I enter my phone number, it also says I've already created an account. You really can't do that stuff. So I figured I'd take a nap and try again in the morning when my patience is restored. The next morning I put it on my desk to do at least some other work while waiting for the slow steps of the process. The plan is to reset everything, create a new account with a different mobile number. such a pain Connect it. a bug in the initial loop before you can even press buttons to set up WiFi.
