I live in a big swampy area called Southern Ohio. Dealing with mistakes is a constant challenge. I used to use LED lights that turn on in the dark and turn off at dawn around the house, but I found that the light left on all night caught all kinds of bugs and their companion predators, which were other bugs, attracted bright. These lights, turned on for brief periods during urination, have eliminated the insect cleaning ritual that is part of morning shaving and brushing teeth. So if you find bugs or parts of them around the night lights, it improves the situation noticeably. If you can paint the outside of your home a dark color other than white, it also won't attract as many of those ladybug-like creatures that infest everything in late fall and late spring, insecticides aren't necessary. You'll still have them, just not in the same density that the White House attracts.
