We bought them for my son so that he can carry them to kindergarten in the forest from a few weeks. We asked him to try on the shoes to make sure they fit and he insisted on wearing them outside. These are his favorite shoes now. He wore them everywhere, in mud, mud and sand. They have great traction. They are not "waterproof" but seem to keep feet dry in wet grass or mud.
