Review on Metra 70-6510 Wiring Harness: Perfect Fit for 2002-2004 Dodge Ram with Infiniti System by Joey Richardson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A real pain but a happy outcome.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 AWD/4WD Laramie with an Infiniti hands-free kit. It didn't work even though I got it to work. First thing I ordered was a Metra recommended adapter that plugged into the factory wiring harness, but once installed there was no power coming out of the adapter. So I suspect the adapter is defective and I returned it very frustrated after reading many other reviews with the same issue. Don't bother calling Metra. I was never able to get through and the recording continued to play, with an estimated wait of a minute. after waiting almost an hour and trying at different times. Secondly. Judging by the photos the 70-6512 doesn't work so I ordered one and removed the factory amp. It's a ridiculous amount of work and time. The amplifier is in a very tight place. It's behind the glove box and you have to remove everything under the dash and glove box to get to the amp. The amplifier is attached with three screws. Two in front. on the back of the glove box and one on the left side facing the steering wheel. It's incredibly difficult to remove. After loosening the three screws, turn them a bit where the rear wiring harnesses are more visible (there are 2 of them). There is very little wiggle room and I ended up using a pair of vise pliers to gently pry the two plugs out of the amp. Only then was I able to rotate it so the rear suspension intakes were facing me to remove the booster. Three. The 70-6510 harness plugs (2) almost fit into the factory harness plugs (2) but not into the cigar. The pins are disabled and the alignment keys are incorrect. but so close. but still no cigar! Apparently, from what I've read elsewhere, Dodge had more than one Infiniti system and seat belt designs for this car model. Frustrated, I decided to use a 9 volt battery to mute the speakers from the factory wiring harness, cut the appropriate wires and fitted extension cords to the main unit. I soldered and shrunk the connections. I also replaced the door speakers with kickers recommended by Crutchfield (bought from buddy Revain at best price). I don't need another amplifier outside of the head unit, so I only made 4-door connections from HU. My HUSBAND is a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX and I have to say I see no point in having three speakers in the dash. It sounds perfect. Overall I'm satisfied, but the amount of time and frustration involved in this project was much greater than I anticipated. Something for 20-year-olds who have a lot more free time. I ended up with wire. Metra 70-6510 barrel for 8 connections for 4 door speakers. High quality cable, speaker locations marked and color coded, although the factory speaker cables do not match the HU color code. Again very happy with the end result but it really hurt. Hope this information helps someone. . 3 stars for inaccuracy. but still used the wire.
