I bought a VCX NANO to program a used GM navigation radio. The donor radio is from a 2012 Tahoe and I installed it on my 2013 Silverado. As it was from another vehicle with a different VIN, the radio read 'BLOCKED' because the VIN programmed into the donor radio did not match the VIN on my truck's BCM. Also, the speaker options, backup camera, rear entertainment features, etc. were different on my truck and the radio had to be programmed for my truck's specific setup. Below is a description of the device, the software and how I used it. The device itself is a good copy of the GM Bosch MDI2 interface and J2534 programmer. This is a device that GM uses to interface with its modern vehicles, but is backward compatible with older vehicles. It has the ability to connect to various modules in the vehicle (Door Switch, BCM, ECM, RADIO, Remote Key, etc.), read module information, reset fields and program the module when used with an AC Delco Service and Programming subscription will ( PLC). Also included is a CD with a copy of the GM software; Tech2Win, GDS2, GM MDI Manager and VCX Manager. Tech2Win is an emulator of the old GM Tech2 handheld used from the mid 90's to around 2013. It can work independently. Global Diagnostics 2 (GDS2) replaces Tech2 and is used today by dealers for troubleshooting. GDS2 is a subscription service, but here it is packaged in a vendor-created virtual machine, allowing you to run GDS2 without having to purchase a subscription from AC Delco. I don't think GM MDI Manager is used, but VCX Manager needs to be open for other software to work properly. I think it provides an interface to make software work with cloned hardware. All software is a GM clone and has been modified to run an MDI clone. There is no way to program new or used modules on the CD. Programming requires a subscription to AC Delco TDS, which allows you to download and flash calibration files for programming. The subscription you are looking for is the Service and Programs (SPS) subscription. I paid $40 for 24 month access but it only allows you to program 1 specific car and costs $40 for each car you want to program. Programming is done through a Java based application and I ended up disabling all security features in the Java Control Panel to make it work. Using a Java programming application, I was able to update the radio I was using to match my truck's specific RPO codes. However, the radio was still blocked because the VIN on the radio did not match the truck. I'm a bit confused here. In 2008 GM issued a bulletin (#PIT4007D) that mainly talked about using Tech2 to invoke the built in VIN relearn command on radios that were programmed but still had the old VIN. The only catch was that no matter what radio you tried to reset, you had to select parameters on your 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LTZ Tech2 to trigger the VIN relearn command. I tried using the Tech2Win software that came with it, but the command wasn't there, like it was removed. On a whim I searched for and downloaded an older version of Tech2Win and there was an option to relearn the VIN! It worked, I was able to remove the old VIN which allowed the radio to connect to the new VIN. The included version was NAO V33.004, but the older version that allowed VIN reset was NAO V30.004. I suspect GM intentionally removed the VIN relearn command from Tech2Win updates to force you to go to the dealer for special VCI programming, which is only available by contacting GM dealer support. ensure the correct operation of the software. I would recommend that you only install it on an old computer that doesn't contain any personal information, as all the software provided is cloned software that requires you to disable all firewalls and antivirus programs. However, once you have the software installed and running correctly, it is a great tool for diagnostics, maintenance and programming.
