I bought these to replace missing pins in a standard shoe rack. These pins fit perfectly in the original holes. As mentioned, these pins are probably 1/32" smaller than 1/4", making them look more like 7/32" in diameter, but that's exactly the size that was originally used and worked in my case. If you are purchasing these for use in finished furniture, measure the diameter of the holes first.
