I bought this to use, in lieu of a hacksaw, to cut down two mountain bike handlebars to a narrower width. I've used pipe cutters years ago cutting copper pipe while helping my dad build a house, and I used to enjoy cutting down pipe. The first handlebars were a medium quality (Deity brand) 35mm diameter $100 set. The first side of the handlebars, didn't take too long, about 10 minutes. The second end of the handlebars, much longer, at nearly half an hour.OK, on to the smaller diameter bars, a new 31.8 (Wake brand) $20 set purchased here on Revain. The first side it took just over an hour. Yep, just over an hour. The second end I over two hours into it and am still working on it! I am stunned at how quickly the cutter portion of the conduit cutter has dulled and has become ineffective. And, to add insult to injury, on this last and final end, I have to crank down the cutter so tightly for the cutter to work and the rollers have gone over the same spot for so many rotations, the rollers have worn down finish on the new handlebars. The attached pictures show the end cut on one end of the Wake bars, the one that took over an hour and it's minimal finish removal and the (still) work-in-progress on the other end of the handlebars. It's crazy.I have really strong hands and forearms; I'm that guy who people hand the pickle jar that can't be opened. I wrestled in high school and college, and my grip is much stronger than of others, so my strength isn't an issue. It's just that the cutting portion of the conduit cutter just dulled so quickly. At least 6 times I've told myself just get a hacksaw and get it over with, but stubborn I am and I want the ends to look alike. So, I'm hanging in there to the end and am hoping it doesn't take another to finish this last cut.I have a couple of other bars I want to trim, but I'm not using this cutter; this item is being returned, and I'll pop or a few extra dollars to get a better one.
