Review on ELECOM 8-Button Finger-Operated Trackball Mouse: Wired/Wireless/Bluetooth, Smooth Tracking & Precision Sensor (M-DPT1MRXBK) by Steve Cooper

The closest thing I could find to a Trackman is

. medium size that is wireless, wired and bluetooth. Deft Pro is written directly under the ball. I've had a Logitech Trackman for at least 15 years now and the left click button has finally died. It's a real tragedy that they discontinued this model and didn't replace it with something like it. This model from Elecom seemed to me to be the best replacement for the Trackman, and it's not bad. All packaging is in Japanese. The instructions are also entirely in Japanese. You have to google to find the English instructions. Finding drivers is a small problem. You can also just google it, but people have shared the link in the reviews here and also in the Q&A section. Right-clicking is awkward. There are 2 buttons to the right of the ball. Your ring finger is on the one closest to the ball and your pinky is on the closest button. The right-click function is assigned to the button under the ring finger. You can remap all the buttons however you want with the software, but I have to say that pinky right-clicking seems more intuitive. To be honest I'd rather have just one button on this side of the product. This is confusing and not intuitive. The scroll wheel also seems less functional on the thumb. I prefer it under my index finger like the Trackman does. The software works fine for me on Windows 10. I connect via bluetooth and it works fine except sometimes when the trackball is in my lap it drops the connection. The original battery died about an hour ago and this is very disappointing. Logitech Trackman took 2 AAs and they lasted a year. This Elecom runs on a single AA and it has lasted less than a month and I was on the low setting the entire time. I'll try a 2.4GHz connection and see if the battery lasts longer. I'd rather not use the USB port for the dongle, but oh well. I wish Logitech would bring the Trackman back.

Pros
  • . Crossing my fingers
Cons
  • . Not as good as it says.
