I'm tired of rusting cutlery and even more tired of polishing it. Polished stainless steel is almost as attractive as silver and requires far less maintenance. This cake slicer is a real eye-catcher, although I wouldn't describe the stainless steel holder with the plastic handle as particularly "poisonous". The prongs are good although it would be nice if they reached the tip or the tip would be pointed as that's the part that has to cut through the crust or whatever (I used it for lasagna the other day and the blunt one Lace was particularly annoying ). But overall very happy with this product.
