Very flat cabinet and drawer organization

I was excited when I received this. I pulled it out of the box and found that the center section is at least 1/2 inch smaller than the sides. That's a lot of space to lose and meant my cutlery wouldn't fit in the slot without overdoing it. We have 8 or 12 piece sets and I couldn't put my knives in the slot because it was too shallow. He returns and the search continues.
