I wish I had bought this sooner! It was within my budget, although I was skeptical about the need for batteries when similar vacuums had cords to plug into. I think it's better without a cord, it's easier to move around the aquarium. I have several aquariums with different substrates. 3 gallons of clean gravel - vacuum worked best. There is only sand in the 5 gallon tank, since the vacuum just sucks it all up, I found it best to "hover lightly" over the areas to be cleaned rather than deploying the entire nozzle. The 20 gallon tank mixed both gravel and sand - I could see it removing debris but had to be careful not to get too much sand. However, I would 110% buy this product again! A very handy tool that saves time during maintenance!
