I ordered this pad after my quarter horse gelding started acting back sore after a ride. He is very wide and although my saddle fits him properly it tends shift due to his lack of withers. He has been much more comfortable with this pad with just a thin pad beneath it and it has also stopped the problem I was having with the saddle shifting. I have also been using it on my mustang colt and it seems to be comfortable for him but he has only had a few rides - he is much narrower with prominent withers and my saddle fits him better with this pad and a thicker pad under it, still no shifting even with a thicker pad underneath. I haven't tried this pad under my western saddle yet, just my close contact jumping saddle but I'll probably try it as it seems to be a great pad. It looks like it will fit under my roping saddle okay with a thin woven pad underneath it.
