Review on Brother QL-1100 Professional Thermal Label Printer: Wide Format, Postage, and Barcode Capabilities (Black) by Wes Thao

Labels are very expensive, not worth it, + a few serious flaws

At first glance this printer was great. But after a few weeks of use, serious problems appear. 1) Labels for this Brother printer are over 12 cents per label, which doesn't seem crazy unless you order a lot, but there are options for other label printers for less than 2 cents per label. 2) Additionally, there are very few standard labels for this printer, and that's important. At the time of this review, I could only find one company that makes legitimate work labels, enKo, and they cost a little over 2 cents. on the label but they are the wrong size. Brother makes their shipping labels 103mm x 164mm (not quite 4 x 6) and generic enKO makes them smaller, 102mm x 152mm), which wouldn't matter much if you could actually tell a brother about this printer. Unfortunately it will NOT let you print on smaller labels if you try as it sees these enKO labels as 103mm x 164mm originals so you will end up with cut off portions of your labels. And you can't make it print with the settings you set, so you MUST tell it to print at actual size, which causes several problems: that the printer decided it needed the extra space, I assume? So you end up with a lot of wasted generic labels and I've spent hours trying to get this thing to print correctly on smaller labels and it just doesn't work properly. 3) Another problem if you plan to connect this printer to a network - it doesn't have an ethernet port, so you need to share the printer through the PC, and this isn't consistent enough to be a good solution. a printer, windows 10 or something, but most of the time when you try to print from another pc over the network it just won't print and you have to remove the printer from your devices and manually re-add the address over the network. It's just not a very good solution. If you need a network thermal printer, don't buy this printer. If you are returning this printer, try Arkscan next time.
